The Kansas City Six, a small breakaway band from the 1938 Count Basie Orchestra, took Basie's rhythm section along with pioneering electric guitarist Eddie Durham and topped it off with jazz lions Buck Clayton on trumpet and Lester Young playing clarinet(!). This was light, swinging music on the cusp of bebop. Southside Aces veterans Dan Eikmeier, trumpet; and Tony Balluff, clarinet; Dave Michael drums; and Josh Granowski, string bass; and the guitarists of Spruce Top Duo—Myra Burnette and Fitzgerald Palmer—have come together to bring this great music to your 21st Century ears!
